Like many of our rescues, Maya was found on the side of a busy highway after she had been hit by a car. She had managed to prop herself up, but she was unable to move and was in severe pain. Her injuries were very serious but this little girl is a fighter and we were determined to do everything we could to help her. After a few vet consultations and a number of x-rays, Maya underwent a nearly 4-hour surgery, during which Maya had special plates inserted into her hind legs.

A few days after the surgery we were back at the vet with Maya. Her stitches started to split and it looked like the surgical site may have gotten infected. Everything was cleaned up and fixed this time. This little girl surprises us all the time, she is unbelievably smart and patient!

Two more weeks, two more vet visits and Maya starts walking again, slowly with breaks rest but she is walking and every day she is better and better!
