Bring home a Sochi Dog

Sochi Dogs is an international dog rescue organization founded in the United States to save homeless dogs around the world by supporting small-scale dog rescuers, funding spay/neuter initiatives, and running an active worldwide adoption program. Learn more about what we do.

Adopting a Sochi dog is an incredible way to make a difference and become part of a dedicated community.  Sochi dogs make loving and loyal companions who will always be grateful to you for rescuing them! Just ask any of our adopters.

What’s in a Sochi Dog?

Lots of love, but also…
All of our dogs are:

  • Fully vetted and vaccinated to international standards and have their very own international passport.

  • All Sochi dogs are seen by a CDC-licensed vet prior to adoption.

  • Spayed/neutered, microchipped, and heartworm tested.

  • Receive preventative care and medication.

  • Spend time in foster homes before adoption to allow for a smooth transition.

    • They are house-trained, leash-trained, and generally know the basic house rules

    • Cat, kid & car tested

  • Matched to fit your family’s needs and lifestyle. In addition to an application and a phone chat, we also give you the opportunity to get to know your new best friend during a trial adoption period, scroll down to learn more.

How to Welcome a Sochi Dog into Your Home

    1. Check out our available dogs and fill out an adoption application.

    2. If your application is a match, we’ll contact you within 72 hours to schedule a phone call. We do everything we can to ensure a successful placement. This means we want to learn about your home, lifestyle, and what you are looking for in a canine companion. Our matching process is one of the factors responsible for our high rate of successful adoptions.

    3. Once we’re positive we have the perfect dog for you, the anticipation to meet your new best friend begins!

All the dogs posted on our website are either already in foster homes in NJ, CT, or NY, or have a scheduled flight and should arrive in the U.S. within the next couple of weeks.

If your dog is located in a foster home near you, then we will arrange a meeting with the foster family at a convenient location and date.

If your dog is with one of our rescue partners, and coming soon, we will ask you to put down a $75 deposit. We reserve the dog for you, mark the dog status as “adoption pending

    About our Foster-to-Adopt model

All of our adopters have a 1-week trial period to decide if the dog is the right match. If you decide the adoption is not working out, you can notify us within the first week, and we will coordinate a time to return the dog to a foster home and issue a refund of the adoption fee, less the deposit. If you are happy with your adoption after one week, the adoption will be finalized.

Extensions can be made to the trial period, but please get in touch with us as soon as possible if you think you will need an extension. If at any point after the adoption is finalized, you become unable or unwilling to care for the dog, it must be returned to us.

Adoption Fee

Our adoption fee is broken out into two parts:

Part 1 -  Vaccines, Transport & More:  This covers your dogs’ vaccinations, spaying/neutering, preventative care, microchipping, and transport.  $650 USD
For adopters in the EU: Since there is no air travel involved, the adoption fee in the EU is 450 Euros. We are able to arrange transport either to the adopter’s home or a meeting point no more than two hours away.

Part 2 -  Mandatory CDC Fee: Dogs adopted in the US require an overnight stay at a CDC Animal Care Facility, (The ARK at JFK), and a vet exam by a CDC-licensed vet at the facility. The subsidized fee for these CDC mandated procedures: $250
Adopters in the EU or dogs adopted from an EU country do not require this.

Happily-Ever-After

Once you bring home a Sochi dog, you’re part of the Sochi Dog Family! We have an excellent community of adopters who share stories about their Sochi dogs and ask and answer questions in our closed Facebook group. This is a great resource for our prospective Sochi dog parents. If you are interested in joining the group, send us an email at info@sochidogs.org, and we will be happy to extend an invitation to you.

Additionally, if you ever run into a training or behavioral question, we have experts on our team who can help guide you through it. Once you adopt, we are here with you every step of the way!
